Keep Your House Clean With These Simple Tips

Spring is fast approaching, and that usually means it’s time for some home cleaning. I’m not entirely sure why ‘spring cleaning’ is a thing, but everyone does it. If I had to guess, I’d say it was to do with spring and the whole fresh start thing. We give our homes a nice clean; we give them a fresh start to blossom for the rest of the year. When most people think about spring cleaning, they focus on the interior of the home. This is natural because it’s where you’ll spend most of your time, and notice all the mess. But, you must make sure you don’t forget about the exterior too! Seeing as I’m in a generous mood, here are some tips to keep the outside of your home clean:

Wash The Windows

Throughout the year, your windows can get absolutely atrocious. They’ll get dirty easily, and need to be cleaned on a regular basis. That’s your first tip for exterior home cleaning; wash your windows regularly. Some people opt for hiring a window cleaner to come every month, this is a viable option but will cost you. If you want to clean them by yourself, follow this simple guide: http://www.realsimple.com/.

Clean The Walls

Typically, the walls of your house will get filthy. There’s not a lot you can do to prevent this; it will happen over time. In fact, spring presents the best time to give your walls a clean as they’ve been through the ringer in winter. All the cold and wet weather will have ensured your walls are looking filthy. Now then, this task can be made so much easier by doing one simple thing; go out and find a pressure washer. One of these will turn cleaning your walls into a simple task. Dirt will be obliterated in no time at all. As seen here http://kleen-ritecorp.com/c-627-general-pressure-washer-pumps.aspx, there are many pressure washer pumps to choose from too. These can help alter the power of your washer, meaning it’s even more effective.

Don’t Neglect The Front Garden

You may get your house nice and clean, but you can’t neglect the front garden. A messy garden can make the rest of your home look horrible too. So, ensure that you’re cutting the lawn and getting everything in order. If you have any plants/flowers then they need to be well looked after so they don’t die. Dying plants is not a good look for any house. Once your garden is in tip top shape, then that’s it, you’re done! You now have a super clean home.

Everyone likes to do some spring cleaning to maintain their property and get it looking great. Make sure that you’re giving your entire house a good clean. This includes both the interior and exterior. With my tips, you now know how to clean the outside of your house, perfectly! When people walk passed it, they’ll look up and admire how amazing it looks. Cleaning doesn’t take long, especially when you know what you’re doing.

Great Tips For Preparing Your Home For Sale

When you know you’re going to sell your house, you’ll probably start going through a varied mix of emotions. Whether it’s excitement or melancholy regret, you need to make sure your home is fit for sale. A lot of people neglect this step in the process, and end up running into all sorts of problems later. Any kind of dealings with real estate can be pretty stressful. Because of this, I’m assuming you want your home sold fast! The people who are going to view your home will have several other candidates in mind. In these situations, the devil is always in the details. Getting that quick sale could hinge on the smallest of details, so make sure you go over everything in your home. It may be worth hiring a company like Cap-It-All Building Inspections to get a thorough report on your home. The little things you can check yourself. Make sure to replace faulty lightbulbs, and fix any doors or drawers which get stuck. You should also check any bedspreads, curtains or other fabrics which may have rips. None of this will affect the buyer’s life in your home, but giving a good impression is everything!

So, you’ve checked that everything in your home is in good working order. The next thing to do is make sure it all looks great. I know you’re moving out, but you’ll need to get a lot of spring cleaning done! You may not look at your skirting boards often, but people who are looking to buy will be scrutinising every last detail in the home. Give them a good dust! Get rid of any cobwebs in the corners, polish anything metal, and vacuum like there’s some kind of deadly insect loose in your home. Remember to clean your oven thoroughly, too. The Kitchn had a pretty good post on this. I know this might sound like a little too much, but you should never underestimate how nosy and judgemental house hunters can be!

My final tip is to depersonalise the entire home. This is an extremely important point if you’re aiming for a fast sale. Like anyone, I’m sure you have a lot of pictures of the family hanging on your walls. Aside from that, you might have more interesting ornaments and artwork dotted around your home. They want to see a blank slate which is appropriate for anyone, where they can clearly visualise a life with their household. Depending on how desperate you are for a sale, you might need to buy a few plain things to give your home the right feel.

Product review: Green Earth 3 piece pan set with textured ceramic by Ozeri

Cooking Breakfast can be a pain if you don’t have the right pans. I love my eggs to not stick to the pans and I haven’t always had luck finding the right non stick pans. I have bought pans that claim they are non-stick but they aren’t. before I know it my eggs are sticking to the pan, my potatoes are sticking to the pan and my breakfast is ruined.

I got to try out Ozeri Green Earth 3 piece pan set (8″,10″,12″) with textured ceramic non-stick coating from Germany and they are wonderful. Not only do these pans come great sizes, they cook my eggs wonderfully too. No longer do I have to have my eggs stuck to the pan and then have scrub hard to get all the food grime off of it when I am done cooking.

I absolutely love the coaster protectors that come with it just in case you decide to stack the pans on top of each other. I also love how easy it is to clean these pans. I just use my regular soap and dry with a towel and my pans are ready for me to cook on them again.

If you are looking for eco-friendly pans The Green Earth pans by Ozeri are the way to go. These pans use GREBLON — an ultra-safe dual ceramic coating from Germany, even under high temperatures, no harmful toxic fumes are ever released into the environment. This is because each pan utilizes a 100% ceramic coating inspired by nature – not a laboratory. I love that the heat is distributed evenly and all my food gets cooked great. If you are looking for some non-stick pans that cook great and are Eco- Friendly this 3 piece pan set my Ozeri might be a good choice for you.

I received the Ozeri Green Earth 3 piece pan set free in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Important Additions to Make Your Home Appropriate for Anyone

As a homeowner, I feel it’s important to make changes and alterations to your home. You have to do what you can to try to make the property as appealing as possible. The best homes are those that have something that appeals to everyone. If you can make your property appropriate for everybody in your life, you will appreciate and enjoy it much more. And you need to think about what you can do to try to achieve that. I’ve made a list of some of the things I think you could and should do to get started. Have a look at them and try to apply as many as you can to your own home.

Pool

You also need to consider the social aspect of owning a home as well. Think about the back garden and how much space you have. And, if possible, you need to figure out how to get a pool installed. This will make the property much more attractive to people wanting to buy as well as extended family. Having a swimming pool to relax in and have fun with is something a lot of people wish they had. So it adds that extra dimension to your property and helps you increase your home’s appeal.

Childproof

You’re probably getting to that age where your friends want to visit and bring their kids round. And this is where you need to make sure your home is safe and secure. Kids are inquisitive and curious, and they will not always understand the dangers presented to them. So, you need to take steps to make sure you secure the home and make it as childproof as possible. Do a bit of research to get a better understanding of what the dangers are in the home. Then you can get about figuring out how to make it safer for children and families who visit.

Fireplace

It’s important to think about comfort within the home at all times. If you can’t be comfortable in your own home where can you be comfortable? Also, you need to make sure that when you have guests visiting, they can also stay comfortable. That means you have to be able to regulate the temperature in the home depending upon what time of year it is. That means in the winter you need to have an open fire to help you keep warm for less. This will provide comfort and cosiness in the home, and will make you and your guests warmer even if it’s a cold time of year.

Lift

One of the major things you need to consider these days is what to do when disabled guests come over. If you have a friend or family member with a disability they may be confined to a wheelchair. And that means you need to make changes to make the home more wheelchair friendly. You need to present an environment where they can visit you whenever they please, and they feel comfortable doing so. That means looking at the range of Terry lifts on offer to see about fitting one in the home. You should also attempt to set up ramps to allow simple wheelchair access throughout the property. By doing this, you make sure your home is appropriate for them whenever they choose to visit.

Garage

If you want to make the home appropriate for your father, or brother, or someone with an interest in cars, then consider a garage. This gives the home an important space that can be used to work on the cars. But it can also double up as a tool shed or workshop. So, if there is someone in the family, or the household, who is a DIY aficionado, then a garage would be an ideal addition. Then, on top of this, you have the bonus of the garage offering more storage space, as well as security for important items.

Open Plan Kitchen

Okay, so take it from me, you need to think about the practicality and functionality of the home. If you want people to enjoy the experience of staying in your house you need to focus on this. If you want prospective buyers to be wowed by your home, you need to focus on this. And one of the main areas you need to focus on is the kitchen. This is often thought of as the heart of the home, and the room that everyone makes judgements on. So, you need to consider how to improve your kitchen and get the best out of it. And one of the best things to do is to go for an open plan kitchen design. This will create much more space and practicality in the home. Families and couples alike will get a lot out of having an open plan kitchen. So, by doing this, you increase the likelihood of selling the property in the future

Dining Room

If you want to have a separate area of the home where you can enjoy eating and throwing dinner parties a dining room would be perfect. You will be able to make full use of this room when hosting festivities in the home. If you have a spare room in the home, you might think about converting it into a dining room. This is bound to appeal to your mother or auntie as the homemaker of the group. A dining room just gives your home a bit of an extra edge that you and the rest of the family can enjoy.

Exterior

Make sure you don’t overlook the exterior of the property as well. A lot of homeowners focus solely on the interior of the home. They forget about the amazing things that can be done outside it as well. You have to bear in mind that a property is as much about visual appeal as it is about practicality. It is important that people like the way your home looks. It’s important that you are happy with its visual aesthetic as well. By working on the exterior of the home you can ensure that it looks great and presents a nice, beautiful home for all to enjoy.

Pic

Loft Conversion

A lot of homeowners are always looking for extra space in the home, and perhaps extra bedrooms. So, with one eye on selling up in the future, you might consider a loft conversion. This relies on your property having a large loft, of course. And you will also need to plan it out and see if you have the space and finances to make the conversion. But, if you can then you will definitely be improving the home by doing this. You’ll make it more appealing to potential buyers. And, when extended family come to stay there will be a lot more space for everyone so it will be more comfortable.

Solar Power

Let’s be honest, these days there is a lot of focus on greener living and for the environment. A lot of people like to class themselves as eco-warriors, and will do all they can to be eco-friendly. And you can embrace this to make your home appealing to those of a greener persuasion. One of the best ways of doing this is to introduce solar power into the home. You can do this by getting panels installed on the roof. These will trap the energy from the sun, and use it to power your home. It’s a more eco-friendly way of powering your house, and it saves money on those expensive energy bills too.

Vegetable Garden

If you’re of a green-fingered persuasion the garden will be like a second home. The fact of the matter is there are so many people out there who would love to do things in the garden. But they either don’t have a garden big enough, or they don’t have one at all! So, you need to try to make the most of your garden to turn it into somewhere that would appeal to anyone with an interest in the garden. I would advise creating a vegetable garden somewhere in your backyard to give you the opportunity to grow your own food. This will turn the garden into an important and valuable asset to any property.

Double Glazing

For those who are both security conscious, and feel the cold then double glazing is appropriate. All homes should be fitted with double glazing because there are so many advantages. For one thing, it’s a very cost-effective way of keeping the property warm, especially in the colder months. But, double glazing also plays a big role in keeping the home a bit more secure, because it’s more difficult to break into. Of course, you have to remember that not all properties will be eligible for double glazing, such as listed buildings. So you’re going to need to check this before you action any changes.

I think it’s important to make additions and changes to your property. The idea is to try to make it appropriate for anyone of any age. You need to consider potential buyers, as well as family and friends who come to visit. Many of these changes are also going to benefit the home and make your life easier as well. So, I hope you will take inspiration from the points that I’ve made on this list and use them to make improvements. Your home deserves to be looked after and tended to in the best possible way. And these changes will help give your home elements that will appeal to anyone.

Keep Warm For Less

image

It’s kind of annoying to think that out there somewhere is the perfect home. It is so well built and insulated that it costs nothing to cool in the summer because it stays at a perfect temperature. It also needs no heating in the winter for the same reason. If such a house exists, it is probably state of the art technology or underground. Most of us have to do with ordinary houses that keep the rain off but leak heat in the winter and need cooling in the summer. Great. That means big costs and expensive bills. What can we take from the ideal house that could help you reduce those bills? Plenty it would seem.

Insulate.

You need to wrap your house in cotton wool. Failing that, every inch of your house should be insulated. The roof, ceilings, walls and floors. It is so simple to say, but many of us have barely managed the roof space. If you have to do that yet, then get onto it right now. As much as half the heat you are paying for is simply leaving as soon as it arrives. That is a no brainer!

If you can, get into those wall cavities and insulate. It can be done by removing the plaster or gib, or it can even be done from outside. If you can get underneath your floor, that too can be insulated. You will have some outlay but your power bills will plummet, and you will be saving big money around the house. Your home will also be a much healthier place.

Fit Double Glazing

Again, the cost in is the outlay, but the savings are forever. Have existing windows replaced by double glazed sealed units. It makes a huge difference to heat and sound. If your budget doesn’t stretch to new windows, then have retro double glazing installed.

Check your house for draughts and use draught excluders and blankets to cover areas under doors for example where cold is coming in. Plug redundant lock holes.

Have your heating system checked, cleaned and upgraded

Running any single room heating system is going to be expensive and inefficient. Make sure that your air conditioner or HRV system is serviced by a reputable Heating and Cooling contractor. They will be best to advise you on the most efficient ways to heat your home. It may even be worth your while installing a more efficient and economical central heating duct system.

If you have any form of central heating, you will still need to get your system served to ensure that it’s running efficiently. Older systems, in particular, can be inefficient and costly to operate.

If you have a log fire or a wood burner, there are some definite things that you can do to maximise its efficiency. Firstly, have your chimney or flue cleaned. This will ensure that you get the maximum draw, and it will mean that your fuel burns cleaner. Secondly, only buy and burn dry firewood that has been properly seasoned. It will give off more heat and cause less smoke and pollution.

With your ‘castle’ fully insulated and your heating at its optimum efficiency. You may not quite achieve that perfect ideal, but you will be a lot closer than you were and hopefully feeling a lot warmer and even a little better off.

Spruce Up Your Garden For Spring

Image Link

It is usually around this time of year that we all start to think about our gardens again. Over winter, a lot of us are guilty of abandoning our backyards for the warmth of the indoors. But now that spring is around the corner, it might be time to show that garden a little bit of love once more. Either way, it is always an excellent idea to get the garden ready for the summer. Otherwise – and we’ve all been there – it comes to summertime, and there is barely any space to enjoy outside. One of the things that often stops people from approaching their garden afresh is the fear that it will be costly. But the truth is that, done right, gardening need not cost very much at all. With only a little financial input, and some enjoyable hard work, the garden can be made both beautiful and functional in no time at all. Let’s have a look at some easy ways you can reinvent your garden this coming spring, without breaking the bank – or your back.

Make a Shady Spot

One thing which you will be glad to have once the sun gets going is a little shady spot to call you own. This can be anything from a simple wooden bench to an entire new set of decking. Whatever you choose to do, the idea is to carve out a little space that’s just for you. Somewhere where you can just read and be by yourself. If you’re feeling a little devil-may-care, you might even like to put up a hammock.

Image Link

Get New Furniture

One of the quickest and cheapest ways to reinvent your garden is to treat it to some new Rattan Garden Furniture. This is such an easy way to bring new life into your outdoor area. There is such a huge selection of furniture to choose from; your only problem might be settling on just one style! Whatever you end up going for, once summer comes you will be glad you invested in some comfortable furniture.

Image Link

Mulching

Now on to the gardening itself. For the more green-fingered out there, mulching is something you can do which will make your garden a good deal healthier. Mulch around the base of your plants to keep them happy and healthy for as long as possible. Even adding just two inches of natural mulch assists in the soil retaining moisture, which in turn helps the plants grow at an even rate.

Pruning

Possibly one of the quickest ways to improve the overall look of your garden is by pruning the plants. This should only be the work of an afternoon – and besides, you will probably find that it is a lot of fun. Go around the plants and snip off all the excess leaves and deadhead the flowers. Don’t make the mistake of being overly-sensitive when it comes to looking after your plants. The truth is, they prefer to be cut back from time to time so that they can thrive more fully in the long run.

If I Bought A Period House, Here’s How I’d Renovate It

There are plenty of different styles of houses on the market these days. One personal favourite of mine is, without a doubt, the period house. I’m talking about ones built hundreds of years ago, not faux-look period houses!

I don’t know why, but they seem to offer more character than modern houses. The thing is; period houses are usually rather expensive to buy. If I wanted to buy one today, I’d have to go for a “fixer-upper” as they say. Is that something you want to do this year? Here’s what I would do if I were in your shoes:

Get the timber checked for woodworm

I’ve stayed at and even lived in some period houses during my life. One thing I’ve noticed that applied to all those properties is woodworm. It’s the bane of any period homeowner’s life and is something you can expect in such old houses.

The trouble with woodworm is you seldom know you’ve got a problem until you can see it! Typical signs of woodworm infestation are holes in timber like roof and wall beams. I recommend you call Timberwise to treat your timber, even if there are no visible signs. Prevention is better than the cure, as they say!

Have a damp proof course fitted

One of the downsides to owning an old house is damp. It’s a problem that can plague some properties if nothing gets done about it. When walls get overrun with damp, the plaster must get removed and a damp treatment applied. As you can imagine, that can cost a lot of money and disruption.

An alternative is to have a company fit a damp proof course for you. It’s worth hiring an expert that specialises in older period properties. That’s because they’ll have the knowledge and skill to work with houses like yours.

Get the roof repaired

I can guarantee you that even well-maintained period houses will have leaky roofs! The materials used in today’s houses are far superior to the ones from hundreds of years ago. Not to mention the construction techniques!

Before you move into your new period property, give ELC Roofing a call. That way, they can make sure that it doesn’t rain inside your home when there’s wet weather outside!

Have an electrical survey carried out

Over the years, the electrical wiring in the period house you want to buy will have got renewed. But, when was the last time this got done? If the current owner doesn’t know, you need to get an electrical survey carried out.

In a nutshell, an electrical survey is a way to check the safety and efficiency of a house’s internal wiring. If the house needs to get rewired, I recommend having that done before you move into it. That’s because you’ll then need to have walls and ceilings replastered afterwards.

Final thoughts

Sure, there are a few extra things you should do when contemplating the purchase of a period home. But, by knowing what to do, you’ll save yourself a lot of time and money. Thanks for reading today’s blog post!

I wish I would have had this dash cam a few years ago. Now that I do I feel so much safer driving knowing that if I have another incident it will all be recorded and I wont have to argue what happened or need to find witnesses.

Product Review: Polaroid Zip photo printer

polaroid zip photoprinter

I have loved Polaroid and their instant cameras ever since I was a little girl. I loved being able to get my pictures as soon as I took them. Many years have passed and I like others have become dependent on my cellphone for my pictures. The only problem with that is I hate having to go to stores to have my pictures printed from my cellphone. I wanted the option to be able to print my photos right away and use them where I needed them to be used at. Luckily for me Polaroid had people like me in mind when they made the Polaroid zip instant photoprinter

I am able to record special moments in my families life by being able to print pictures form my cellphone using Bluetooth or the polaroid NFC Technology. The children can use the polaroid zip printer with their tablet or their iphone which makes them so happy.I just love that I don’t have to worry about replacing ink on this printer. The Zink photopaper is inkless and works by using heat from the printer which activates unique color-forming molecules embedded in the paper’s layers.

As a host for planner meetups I love being able to show other ladies how quick and easy it is to use this printer and be able to record special moments on my planner. The pictures fit perfectly in my Erin Condren Life Planner. What I do is put two pictures to fit in the 2×3 prints and then cut them out and it fits in perfectly in the box or take a picture and let it take up two of my planner boxes. I absolutely adore that you can peel back the sticky paper from the smudgeproof photos and just stick these photos anywhere!! Currently my photos have been decorating my planner pages.

Right now when buying the Polaroid zip instant photoprinter you currently have the option of choosing it in Black, White, Red or Blue, what color would you choose for your Polaroid photoprinter ? I chose white because it blends in with everything but Blue was a second close choice.

Common Electrical Faults Around the House

There are many different types of electrical faults that you can face in the home. And you need to know about them if you are going to avoid them and fix them if they arise. Read on to find out about the most common electrical issues you might face.

Dead Outlets

Breakers might be responsible for your outlets going dead. This is not a huge problem, and it is probably easier to fix than you might expect. But there are other types of dead outlet problems that you might face around the home. For example, half of a pair of outlets might go dead while the other half goes on working just fine. This usually happens because of use over time, and it will probably need an expert to reconfigure the outlet that isn’t working. Trips in the bathroom and kitchen are more common because of how these rooms used to be wired differently in past decades. This shouldn’t be a problem in newer homes.

Blown Fuses

Fuses blow when the circuit gets overloaded, and this can cause you lots of problems. The fuse itself is a safety measure that is there to stop an electrical disaster. But if the wrong type of fuse is used in a particular situation, this will lead to the fuse eventually blowing. This is the most common mistake that people make when they try to take on an electrical job in their home. Many people simply don’t know what they are doing, so they pick a fused with an incorrect capacity for the type of task that they need completing. You should also check the capacity before doing any work involving fuses. Or use an experienced emergency electrical company.

Light Bulb Problems

If you have a problem with your light bulbs, it might not be about the light bulbs themselves. It could be about the way that your light fittings are wired. But what are the most common light bulb problems? Light bulbs that burn out at a very high rate are very common. It could be down to the fact that you are using inefficient bulbs. But they could also be fitted incorrectly, causing them to waste energy and burn out faster than you’d expect. Lights that flicker or blink can usually be explained by a poor connection somewhere in the wiring circuit. If this problem happens throughout the home, it could be due to a larger home wiring issue.

Warm or Faulty Switches

When you use a dimmer switch, it’s not uncommon for people to experience the switch getting too warm. But it shouldn’t get so warm that you start to be concerned. If this is the case, it might be down to a connection issue behind the wall. Also, be careful not to overload a power outlet with too many adaptors as this can overheat the outlet and switch as well. There are many other switch problems you can experience too. For example, if you move into a home and switches don’t seem to control anything in particular, it might be down to a wiring problem.
