What family night activities do you do with your family ?

In our house there is always either music playing or someone singing. In some houses the families have movie night , game night and karaoke night, in our house we have all those. My children’s favorite time is when they get to sue a microphone and either really sing or lip sing to their favorite songs. Its quite easy to set up karaoke night if you want to have some family fun. All you have to do is buy a musiciansfriend.com xlr cable and microphone and set it up to your stereo system if it has a karaoke feature or buy yourself a karaoke system.

We love to have family nights in our home and feel its a great tradition we are setting up for our kids. I want them to grow up and remember all the fun times we had as a family and hopefully they will do the same thing with their families. For our family game night we bring out different board game and either decide as a family to play a certain game or set up stations for different games to be played at the same time. Do you have family night set up at your house ? What activities do you do with your family ?

Listening to my children play always brings me good memories

This weekend my children participated in the cities Christmas parade. While I wish I could have heard a 5 neck guitar we heard some drums and some saxophones and flutes. We also got to see a couple of marching bands from different high schools. Listening to the marching band music versus the music played at the school recitals always brings me good memories.

I particularly liked seeing the different cheer and dace teams. I always thought my girls would do good in the dance teams but they only took it for one year. One seems to like choir more and the other ended up wanting to do more artsy stuff. I have always told my kids they could do whatever they wanted and I still believe that. I will always support my children on whatever path they choose to take. One thing I want them to know is that they can always count on their mom when it comes to anything they want to do or need advice on. My biggest and best accomplishment has and always will be them.

My Top Tips For Keeping Family Life Affordable

It’s no secret that having children comes with a lot of expense, from the costs of feeding and clothing them to keeping a roof over their heads. As a parent, I am all too familiar with the cost of raising kids. I love my children dearly, but having a family is just so expensive.

Of course, while being a parent is pricey, there are ways to cut your spending costs. Want to know more about reducing your family’s spending, keep reading, below:

Go green with your meals

This may sound a little crazy, but hear me out. We are a society that loves eating meat, well most families do. Buying good-quality meat can be expensive and can massively increase the cost of your grocery shopping. Instead of eating meat every night, consider going green on weeknights.

The good news is that as well as being cheaper, going green is also healthy. Plus, with so many yummy recipes to choose from, even the fussy eaters in your family will be happy. From veggie lasagne to lentil curry, there are lots of delicious meat-free meals you can try. You could also consider adding Quorn to your food. This is a mushroom-based meat alternative, that’s cheap, tasty and healthy.

Teach the kids about energy efficiency

Want to save money at home – be more energy efficient. One of the best ways to cut your household spending is by becoming more eco-friendly, as less energy usage means lower bills. Turn down the thermostat, swap to energy efficient light bulbs, and insulate your home. Do whatever it takes to reduce your energy bills.

Of course, it’s all well and good being energy efficient yourself. However, if the whole family doesn’t follow your example, it’s pointless. Hold a family meeting and discuss why it’s so important that you become more energy efficient. Explain that not only will switching off PlayStations after use, save money but also, the penguins and the polar bears.

For older kids, it shouldn’t be too hard to explain. For younger ones, however, it might be tricky. Have a look online and order them a book about energy saving, that you can read to them. Or perhaps you could download a kids program about saving energy?

Take advantage of free activities

This summer, I realised just how much money we spend on family days out. Tickets to events and attractions are just so expensive, for families like mine, days out aren’t always doable. Instead, take advantage of all the free activities on offer in your local area, such as beaches, walks, and play parks.

If there is an attraction that you want to take your kids to but just can’t afford it, think of ways you could make the day cheaper. Pack a picnic instead of buying lunch there. Order your tickets in advance online and receive a ten percent discount. Use discount and deal websites to find cheaper tickets. There are lots of simple things you can do to make family days out more affordable.

Keeping your family afloat isn’t always easy, especially when you are the mother of a big brood. However, by taking note of the ideas above, you can make family life a little cheaper.

I cant help but feel a little bit thrilled

School will be starting next month for my kids. In a way I am glad that they will be going back to school because even though I love my kids dearly my wallet does not. These kids want to be eating all day and night and every summer our food expense goes doubles or triples. I know it might sounds mean but when I got the notice for my kids to go and pick up their school packets a little part of me in my head said their will finally be peace and quiet for at least a few hours.

My kids were excited because they got to pick their electives. One of them wants to take music class so he can learn to play a new instrument. My daughter wants to take up golf…I had a total WTF moment when she told me but just went with it. My older son had been looking us all kinds of musical instruments such as the mandolin guitar center where he looked up all kinds of guitars. I love his enthusiasm but I don’t know how I will feel about the extra noise especially with these headaches I have been having.

I got one that will be graduating this year and is thrilled about going to college. I am just thrilled that the twins will get to go to school for the full day. I am hoping to finally get the house straightened and maybe get to take a college class or two. I can’t help but feel a little thrilled about the kids going back to school. My kids are looking forward to going back to school too.

My craft room isn’t quite crafty right now… more like cluttery

I love doing arts and crafts with the kids. In my quiet time I like doing scrapbooking and more recently I have gotten into my planning/scrapbooking in my planner. I love decorating my planner with stickers and washi tape and all kinds of embellishments. The great thing is that I have accumulated lots of beautiful stuff for my hobby, but the bad thing is that all that stuff is bursting at the seams in my craft room.

I need something like Storable’s storage containers to contain all my things instead of the book shelf that is currently overfilled with cardstocks and stickers and markers and all kids of wood chips and different scraps. I keep telling myself that I am going to organize my craft room but every time I decide to do it I get distracted by the kids or anything else. Please remind me to order some storage containers and maybe a couple more book shelves to get my little area of happiness organized.

I bet I would have a lot more walk room space if I got the sticky notes and crap I have all over my floor in nice neat containers with labels on them. Oh I really need to fix that room and soon.

How has your summer been going ?

Here I thought I would be able to sleep in since it is summer and my kids are out of school. Ha… yeah right, These kids still wake up at the crack of dawn and want to go play outside or want to be running around screaming all over the house. I hear I am bored mom at least 2 or three times an hour but when I offer chores that need to be done all of a sudden they have things to do.

I have been trying to keep my kids as busy as possible with arts and crafts and trips to the Drive in theatre and to the 1.00 movies that our local Movie theatre offers. These kids have too much energy and I don’t have enough energy. I have never been a very big coffee drinker but I think I am going to need one or two cups just to start my day and be able to keep up with these guys.

On another note the weather has been so hot that I have been running the AC 24/7 and I know I am going to hate seeing the electric bill when it gets here. What have you been doing to keep your kids busy ? Do you have any recommendations on where I can take the kids this summer vacation?

How was your Easter Weekend ?

How was your Easter weekend? Ours was calm and relaxed….just how I like it. Now I am not saying that it wasn’t noisy because unless my kids are sleeping there is always some kind of noise in my house. I find strange and somewhat alarming if the house is too quiet. I know when the house is too quiet it means the boys are up to something or feeling sick.

We had a little Easter egg hunt for the kids and then we had a BBQ. My brother in law did the BBQ and the food was quite delicious. I love drama free days and this Easter was perfect in my book. It would have been even better if my Brother in law had his kids over but it didn’t work out that way. Hopefully we will have them over soon and we can celebrate his boys birthday and my boys birthday with a nice BBQ and some birthday cake.

My daughter is looking forward to high school and I am too

We had orientation for my second daughter. She is getting ready to go to high school and orientation day was to see what electives she would like to take and to see all the different programs the school offers. My child being the artistic one of course signed up for choir and cheer and drama and band. Anything involving music and she is there. If doesn’t matter to her if there isLimited availability.
I am sure if her school offered deejay training she would have signed up for that too. I am glad that she is enthusiastic about all the new electives and classes her school is offering but I told her to only sign up for things she is truly going to dedicate time for. I told her if her heart is not going to be in it then don’t do it and give others a chance to enjoy that spot especially if they are going to appreciate it and give it their full attention.

I am looking forward to seeing her perform this year. I truly love my daughters voice and I think all these years of choir have taught her a lot and her voice and singing keeps on getting better and better. I am going to try and record her singing and post it here so all of you guys can enjoy her signing too.

Please let this be the last of it

I don’t know what it is but we have been having a string of unfortunate events. I am so ready for the good luck and blessings to come. In December I had to have emergency gall bladder surgery. I finally recovered from that and last Sunday we got rear ended. My back and neck and part of my head got messed up. The doctor thought it might be a concussion due to the whiplash. I have been dealing with that pain and if I didn’t feel shitty enough, I find out that my bank account was compromised. I have fraudulent charges on my account and my account has been frozen while they investigate and send me a new card.

We also got a ticket in the mail for being on the fastpass express lane on the freeway when I am pretty sure we changed lanes before the express lane started. I am so ready to have all these things be the end of bad and unfortunate events. My stress level is through the roof and I am sure that is not good for the high blood pressure that the doctor thinks I have. Which in turn reminds me that I need to schedule a physical for myself. I have already scheduled physicals for the girls, I need to get the boys and myself done too.

Pawdpet ,the first plush protective tech holder that is huggable and loveable

We live in a technology age and it is not surprising that more and more younger children are wanting access to that technology too. What do you do as a parent when your child is begging to use your Iphone or wanting to use your Ipad? I always fearing that my twins are going to break my tablet because its happened before. It slipped out of my little guys hands and that was the end of my beautiful tablet.

I struggle on the daily about letting them use my new tablet, but I must admit my tablet is quite the lifesaver on long trips. The only problem is that it can be a pain literally on my hands holding it up for them to see on long trips. I do plan to get them their own tablet but I don’t want them breaking it before they even really have a chance to enjoy it.

pawdpet

Luckily I heard about the pawdpet and I instantly fell in love with this protective plush tech holder. Pawdpet has a tech safe magnet in its belly that holds up a phone or tablet. When not in use the phone or tablet can be stored in the pawdpet padded back pocket and it even comes with a convenient strap. The pawdpet can lay straight on its back or down on its side.

The thought of the pawdpet saving my electronics from being broken is enough for me to be interested in their kickstarter campaign and you should be too. Besides the cuteness and cuddle appeal there is the safety of not having to replace another broken phone or tablet which is a total win for me.

You can help out pawdpet and with your support, PawdPet will be able to cover the cost of their initial production run. At the Kickstarter goal, they are hoping for completion by Spring 2015 which is when some of us make our spring break travels. Pawdpet’s goal is to provide their customers with a quality product that is cute, functional and practical which are all the things we would want when it comes to our gadgets.
